Great questions! While nonwoven cleanroom wipers are considered "low linting," they are made from a blend of cellulose and polyester, as you noted. Because cellulose is an organic compound (commonly found in plants), it can inherently shed particulates, which is likely what you’ve observed.

For critical applications, the best solution is 100% polyester wipers with an edge treatment. Polyester is inherently cleaner, and sealed edges help minimize particle contamination.

Here’s a general guide:

Nonwoven wipers: Great for gowning rooms or general cleaning. They’re highly absorbent and cost-effective but trade off some cleanliness.

Polyester wipers: Preferred for direct contact with process surfaces, products, or equipment in the cleanroom. Keep in mind they are slightly less absorbent, and the type of edge treatment can affect abrasiveness. For instance, laser-sealed edges have a small, raised lip that can be an issue for very sensitive or scratch-prone surfaces, whereas ultrasonic seals are smooth and non-abrasive.

Hi everyone,
   Our stock of cleanroom wipes is finally coming to an end.  At some point we bought many cases of these and so we have not had to buy them for years.  We are using TechniCloth nonwoven wipers, 9"x9" 55% cellulose and 45% polyester part number TX609.  We have noticed in the last year or so that these seem to be leaving noticeable particulates which is particulary evident as we wipe off laptops and cell phones coming into the lab.
   So, what recommendations would you have for these?  Do you use different grades/types for litho, the cleanroom proper and the gowning room? Where do you purchase these?
    I see no expiration date on our wipes but do they expire?  Have you noticed old new stock that performs worse than brand new?
