There is certainly the expertise on the network to give you multiple
comprehensive answers!
One of the big initial questions is: What are your goals?
Broken down a bit more: What is your constituency or customer base?
Assuming this is a typical academic shared-use facility, what are the
research areas of your PIs? Do they have any particular goals? A
"potential user" survey would probably be useful in this regard.
Do you have lab space defined already? Is this to be new construction?
How big an area is being considered?
And lastly, what is your budget, or do you have one yet? Is it likely
to be under a million dollars, a couple of million, tens of millions,
50+ million? This parameter will be very relevent to what kind of tool
set you can consider.
With these additional details I think you will get some good answers.
