So far, the only requests we've received for expedited service are from companies. Internal folks just make their students work harder... 🙂

This is something to keep in mind if those customers are University PIs using Federal grants: How an expedited service rate (higher rate than the regular internal rate – lowest available rate) complies with the Fed requirement of Fed grants receiving the lowest rate available at the center/core?
Would a record of the PI requesting and accepting a higher rate exempt the center from a non-compliance finding in an audit?
Interested in this conversation.
Best,
Amelia

Hi gang,
We have recently had a couple of requests from customers to pay extra to receive expedited service on particular projects. Is this something your facility offers? If so, what does this look like?
And on a related note, does anyone have thoughts on adding short term labor to help with projects. We have considered extra pay for university staff outside the nano-fab (recognizing that it would be a conflict of interest to pay our own staff for overtime work) and hiring students as hourly workers and/or consultants. Is there some other model that you've come up with?
