Hi LabNetwork Community,

I am servicing an Edwards nXDS10i scroll pump with worn bearings at UC Davis and need advice on shaft removal.

We have disassembled down to the exposed electric motor and removed the bearing in the back, but the rotator and shaft remain firmly in the position (it can rotate with a little bit of friction). Gentle manual pull/push hasn't worked, and while we noticed 4 notches on the housing that might take a specialized tool, we are unsure of their exact purpose. We have a hydraulic press available, but I want to confirm if pressing the shaft out is the safe/proper method for this model before trying it. (Mounting the whole pump housing one the press seems to be another challenge).

If you have experience replacing bearings on the Edwards nXDS series, any tips on proper tools or procedures to remove the rotator/shaft would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Best regards

Houpu Li

AMCaT Lab | MSE Department

UC Davis
