[labnetwork] Nanostrip/Purestrip bottle leakage: what do most labs do?

Hi Mario,
We have experienced this as well, particularly when shipments arrive (the
bottles are often bloated and we have found that chemical sometimes leaks
into the bags during shipping). In order to prevent this after we take
delivery, we replace the company-supplied solid caps with vented caps upon
arrival. We also keep the bottles in secondary containment at all times
should additional leaks occur. The vented caps largely seem to mitigate
the issue, but they still require monitoring (and potential rinsing).
You should also be aware that the plastic on the bottles may be degraded
and subject to rupture if stored past the expiration date. We have not yet
had any issues with Pure Strip, as we typically go through an order within
the expiration period. However, another lab on campus experienced this
problem with Nanostrip (similar formulation to that of Pure Strip) that was
stored past expiration.
Best Regards,
Matt
